POLICY
Urdang started as one woman’s dream and has fulfilled the dreams of students since 1973. Passion defines our approach in the training of students; a belief in supporting diversity through breaking down cultural and learning barriers. This founding ethos continues today in our commitment to the development of ‘fresh talent’. Urdang is now recognised as one of the UK’s finest Performing Arts colleges with over 85% of recent graduates working in the industry, many in London’s West End.


LOCATION
The Old Finsbury Town Hall is one of London’s landmarks providing a high-class venue for training, close to Sadler’s Wells. Now with a new site, Urdang 2, across the road, the Urdang has ten state-of-the-art studios, singing rooms, lecture rooms, a library, an IT suite, a café and a modern treatment department. The stunning Great Hall doubles as a performance space enabling student in-house productions. It also provides accommodation for West End musicals, dance or music productions.

VOCATIONAL COURSES OFFERED – PERFORMING
The Urdang three-year Performers Diploma leading to the National Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre or Professional Dance awarded by Trinity College London. Urdang is accredited by CDET and is funded by the Young People’s Learning Agency’s Dance & Drama Award Scheme. This full time course aims to develop talented, versatile performers with the necessary skills to pursue a successful career in the performing arts and beyond. The course is progressive over three years and provides students with imaginative, academic and technical skills.

BA (Hons) Professional Dance & Musical Theatre validated by University of East London. A high calibre vocational three-year course, which equips students for a career in the entertainment industry.

All students learn practical skills reaching a professional level in singing, acting, a range of dance styles and theatre performance. Students gain in-depth knowledge of Dance and Musical Theatre performance and an understanding of the industry’s historical and cultural developments.

One-Year Foundation Course in Dance and Musical Theatre
The aim of the course is to raise the student’s skills. Not only will it foster the confidence required in applying and auditioning at vocational colleges, but also prepares them for future careers.

COURSES OFFERED – OTHERS
Pre-Audition Coaching: five-day courses designed by professionals to give potential students a head start in audition technique for Dance or Musical Theatre training. Held three times a year.

The Urdang Youth Academy: for ages 9 upwards every Sunday at the Academy.

Summer School and West End Workshops: an opportunity to take classes or workshops with Academy staff as well as renowned guest teachers in Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Creative Dance with workshops in Musical Theatre or Dance Repertoire.


HOW TO APPLY
Entry to full time courses is by audition with talent and potential considered, not merely whether a candidate has achieved a particular standard in training or qualification. Auditions are held mainly on Sundays at the Academy and over February half-term. Candidates take classes in ballet and jazz, perform a solo song, and participate in an acting and musical theatre workshop. Urdang offers a professional yet relaxed atmosphere to enable all participants to feel at ease and perform to their best.
