Laine Theatre Arts was established in 1974. Half an hour from London’s lively West End it is recognised as being one of the leading international Training Colleges for Performing Arts.

The principal, Betty Laine OBE, has a very clear philosophy about the role of the College. Quite simply it aims to provide students with the greatest possible individual attention to develop the skills required for their chosen career. The main emphasis of the course is on practical training with a comprehensive range of dance and musical theatre skills. Courses are constantly reviewed and updated to keep abreast of the latest trends in the professional theatre.

The Dance and Musical Theatre Course is accredited by the Council for Dance Education and Training and funded by the LSC. Students follow the curriculum for the Trinity College London, National Diplomas in Professional Dance or Professional Musical Theatre. These Diplomas carry a Level 6 rating in the National Qualifications framework giving graduates the opportunity to follow their vocational training with a BA Hons in Professional Practice, such as the one currently offered by Middlesex University.

The College aims to provide the broadest possible training, giving each student individual attention, enabling them to graduate with professional confidence secure in the knowledge that they are prepared for whatever the industry has to offer.
The College is proud of its record of graduate employment and rightly so. Once the students have completed their training the nurturing is far from over. Betty Laine Management is our in-house agency which carefully guides the students through the stages of their professional careers.

Open any theatre programme and the list grows longer. Graduates include Ruthie Henshall – leading West End Lady, Nic Greenshields – Phantom of The Opera, Kerry Ellis – Wicked, Summer Strallen – The Sound of Music, Ben Richards – The Bill, Rachel McDowall – featured in the Mamma Mia film and Victoria Beckham. We currently have 88 artistes performing in the West End.

The College’s auditions, which are held throughout the year, attract applicants from all over the world. Three years later they are launched into their professional careers polished, confident and individually prepared for whatever the industry has to offer them.

Laine Theatre Arts also offers training for Children in Dance, Acting, Singing and Musical Theatre classes from 3 years of age. Including Easter and Summer Courses, please see our website for further information.
